Telephone Kiosk No.2

K2 the London Phone Box
There was strong resistance to siting the unattractive concrete K1 standard design in London. The G.P.O. held a competition for a new design of phone box. This example is part of the BT National Kiosk Collection located at Avoncroft Museum, Bromsgrove, Worcestershire.
The winner was Giles Gilbert Scott with this 1 ton cast iron design for the Kiosk No.2 (K2) telephone box. More than 1500 were produced between 1926 and 1934 and installed only in London. As such they have become the iconic British phone box as the general public can't spot the difference between the K2 and the later K6 installed in the rest of the country. Goto the Kiosk No.6 Page
